Our Vermont Woods

The 2017 Vermont Forest Insect & Disease Conditions Report is now available.  The detailed report provides documents survey results and observations by Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (FPR) staff in the calendar year.   The report also details weather,  phenology, forest insects, forest diseases, animal damage, invasive plants, and trends in forest health. In addition, it provides maps showing results of aerial detection and invasive pest surveys, ground survey data summaries, and a comprehensive list of tree health problems that were reported to us last year.  Activities highlighted by the report were conducted in partnership with the US Forest Service, Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets, USDA-APHIS, the University of Vermont, the National Weather Service, cooperating landowners, resource managers, and citizen volunteers.

Please note: This report highlights observations from 2017, and does not include information about the recent detection of emerald ash borer in Orange County. We are grateful that so many people are on the lookout for signs of EAB and other invasive pests, and that the consulting forester who made the recent observation reported it through vtinvasives.org. We will continue to post information about this EAB detection on vtinvasives.org as we learn more.
