On July 31st, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service alerted state officials that an emerald ash borer (EAB) beetle was captured on a purple detection trap in the town of Stamford, VT. This location is within five miles of another recent EAB detection in the town of North Adams, MA. This invasive insect was first discovered in Vermont in February and has also been confirmed in Orange, Washington, and Caledonia counties.

On Wednesday, July 11, State and Federal officials will host a public meeting in Montpelier about emerald ash borer (EAB), an invasive insect recently discovered in Vermont. Those attending the meeting will have the opportunity to learn about EAB, implications of the statewide quarantine, infested wood disposal options, “slow-the-spread” recommendations, and guidance for landowners, forest professionals and municipalities.
MONTPELIER, VT – Vermont State Parks is excited to launch the new First Time Happy Campers Program at five parks during the months of July and August. Created in partnership with the Outdoor Gear Exchange, this program provides free camping for new campers, whose names will be chosen at random when they register through https://www.vtstateparks.com/happy-camper.html.

The Working Lands Enterprise Board awarded over $750,000 in grants to 25 Vermont agriculture and forest sector businesses and service providers at the statehouse today, in support of businesses and organizations that support Vermont's working landscape. The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative has distributed over $3.8 million in grants since its inception in 2012, leading to an additional 428 jobs and $18.1 million in sales.
