Governor Phil Scott's Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative Releases Recommendations To Strengthen and Expand Vermont's Outdoor Recreation Economy

Governor Phil Scott's Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative Steering Committee (VOREC), recently released the group’s first report, which recommends strategies to strengthen and expand Vermont’s outdoor recreation economy.

The first report to Gov. Scott follows months of public meetings and comments, and incorporates input from hundreds of Vermonters across the state.

Working Lands Enterprise Board Announces $750,000 in Available Investments

“The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative is critical for our Vermont farm and forest economies. The program demonstrates a strong partnership between the public and private sectors, led by the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation, and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development. This is an important use of funds to strengthen our working lands economies here in Vermont,” said Gov. Phil Scott.

State Hires New Coordinator To Encourage Wood Energy

The Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation (FPR) recently welcomed a new staff member, Emma Hanson, who will serve as Wood Energy Coordinator. She will be tasked with helping to implement the Vermont Comprehensive Energy Plan’s goal of doubling wood fuel’s share of building heating by 2035. Achieving this goal will help in reducing the State’s dependence on imported heating oil and support forest landowners by providing markets for the products of forest management.

2017 Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year Announced

The Vermont Woodlands Association and the Vermont Tree Farm program are proud to announce the selection of David and Jenny Stoner of Craftsbury Common as the recipients of the 2017 Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year Award. The Stoner Family Tree Farm is located in Greensboro, Vermont. The family was nominated by Orleans County Forester Jared Nunery and consulting forester Ross Morgan who nominated them not only for their commitment to their woodlot and woodlands, but for the stewardship ethic that they embody.
