Webinar:Invasive Earthworms in Northern Hardwood Forests

Earthworms are not native to New England’s forests.  Several species of exotic earthworms are invading forests and having a significant impact on forest health by consuming the organic horizons of the forest floor and the removing leaf litter. This change in soil structure can lead to significant changes in soil carbon, nutrients (e.g. nitrogen and calcium), soil microclimate, hydrology, soil organisms, and plant communities.  This webinar will examine the impacts of earthworms on northern hardwood stand dynamics over time.

Presenter:  Lee E. Frelich, Director of the University of Minnesota's Center for Forest Ecology
