2017 Vermont Forest Health Highlights Now Available

The Annual Vermont Forest Health Highlights for 2017 are now available.  View

A few highlights from the highlights:

  • The forest tent caterpillar outbreak expanded, and defoliation was mapped in every county of the state. Moth trap counts tell us to expect defoliation again in 2018.
  • Dry conditions in 2016 and late 2017 are affecting tree growth, while a prolonged wet period in 2017 led to a variety of fungus diseases.
  • In spite of over 200 survey sites in 2017, and 31 states infested nationwide, we still haven’t seen emerald ash borer anywhere in the state.
