Saturday, June 9th, from 10AM to 2:30PM
The Vermont Woodlands Association and the Green Mountain National Forest invite you to learn more about the history of our landscape and see "Old Job", the archaeological remains of an historic logging village within the Green Mountain National Forest. Guides, Dave Lacy (retired Green Mountain National Forest, archaeologist), and Andrew Triplett (current GMNF archaeologist), will show us the remains of houses, a one room school house, a boarding house, mills, charcoal kilns, and more. Lacy and Triplett will discuss some preservation laws and where they apply; the value we place on archaeological sites; and point out features within Old Job - examples of which could well occur on property you own or manage. It is also an opportunity to have some dialogue about how one might protect and/or manage such sites on lands you actively manage for other purposes. Bring water, bag lunch (we'll eat at the site), bug spray (optional), and trekking poles (optional). Registration is required. To register, email info@vermontwoodlands.org or call 802-747-7900 by June 7th.
For additional information and to register, please visit our website. Space is limited.
Note: There are 4.5 Category 1 CFE credits available for foresters (must sign in).
